A tragic collision on a highway in Canada has claimed the lives of an Indian couple visiting the country along with their 3-month-old grandchild. The accident occurred when a cargo van driven by a liquor store robbery suspect, whom Ontario Police were chasing, struck their vehicle. The collision resulted in the deaths of four people, including the Indian couple and the suspect.

Visiting Indian Couple Among Victims of Fatal Highway Collision in Canada
According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the Indian couple, aged 60 and 55, were visiting from India, while their son and daughter-in-law, residents of Ajax, were also in the vehicle. The fatal car chase ensued after a robbery at a liquor store in Bowmanville, leading to a high-speed pursuit against traffic on Highway 401 in Whitby, east of Toronto.
Milica Maljkovic Birkett, a witness to the harrowing incident, shared her experience of narrowly escaping the collision on her regular commute. She recounted the shock and fear as the suspect’s van approached her car on the wrong side of the road. The SIU continues to investigate the incident, which falls under its jurisdiction whenever police involvement results in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
