Daughter of Maharashtra IAS Officer Dies by Suicide in Mumbai

A tragic incident occurred early Monday morning when a 27-year-old woman, the daughter of an IAS officer from Maharashtra, died by suicide by jumping from the 10th floor of a high-rise apartment in South Mumbai, according to police reports. The victim, identified as Lipi, took this extreme step at Suruchi apartment near Mantralaya, the state secretariat, around 4 am. Lipi was a law student pursuing her LLB in Sonipat, Haryana, and was reportedly anxious about her academic performance, which led to her tragic decision.

Authorities rushed Lipi to GT Hospital immediately after the incident, but doctors declared her dead. Investigators found a suicide note at the scene, in which she stated that she did not want anyone to be held responsible for her death. The police registered a case of unnatural death at the Cuffe Parade police station and continued their investigation.

Lipi’s father, Vikas Rastogi, serves as the principal secretary in Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Department, while her mother, Radhika Rastogi, is also a senior IAS officer in the state government. This incident brings back memories of a similar tragedy in 2017 when Maharashtra cadre IAS officers Milind and Manisha Mhaiskar lost their 18-year-old son, who also died by suicide by jumping from a high-rise in Mumbai.
