Uttarakhand implements the Uniform Civil Code, introduces UCC portal

Uttarakhand UCC: The Cabinet approved the rules manual on January 20. Earlier, on January 13, the Uttarakhand government initiated training for its officials to acquaint them with the Uniform Civil Code portal. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has presented the Uniform bill in the Uttarakhand state assembly, aiming to establish uniform marriage, divorce, land, property, and inheritance laws for all citizens irrespective of their religion.

Uttarakhand rolls out Uniform Civil Code

The Uttarakhand government on Monday implemented the Uniform Civil Code. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the UCC rules manual and a portal for applications under the new rules at the CM’s camp office in Dehradun. The Cabinet approved the rules manual on January 20. On January 13, the Uttarakhand government started training its officials to familiarize them with the UCC portal.

Officials developed online portals for citizens and officials, featuring Aadhaar-based verification, AI-based translation services in 22 Indian languages, and data integration across more than 13 departments/services (e.g., birth-death registrations, district/high courts, etc.). These cloud-based portals include disaster recovery systems.An official source said, “The government set separate fees for expedited registration under the Tatkal service.”. The registration and termination process for live-in relationships has also been simplified. Termination applications by one partner will require confirmation from the other partner.
