Sagarika Ghose Labels EC Action on ‘Viksit Bharat’ Messages as Inadequate
Sagarika Ghose, a leader from the TMC, criticized the Election Commission’s recent directive to halt ‘Viksit Bharat’ messages on WhatsApp, stating that it was insufficient. She alleged that the BJP gained access to a government telephone number database, allowing its campaign messages to reach millions of Indians, including those residing in the UAE. Ghose raised concerns about how the BJP obtained access to such sensitive information, emphasizing that the TMC had been questioning this for the past two days.

MeitY Explains WhatsApp Messages Timing Amid MCC
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) clarified to the Election Commission that it had sent WhatsApp messages before the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Despite dispatching them prior to the MCC’s enforcement, MeitY acknowledged the possibility of delayed delivery due to systemic and network constraints. The Election Commission emphasized the significance of its recent action regarding the ‘Viksit Bharat’ messages on WhatsApp, stating that it is part of efforts to maintain fairness in the electoral process.
