Sensex Falls 200 Points, Nifty Below 23,550 As MPC Cuts Rate

Sensex Today: Benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty50 opene with modest gains on Friday, maintaining a cautiously optimistic stance ahead of RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra’s key interest rate announcement later in the day.

Sensex and Nifty Open Higher

At the market open, the BSE Sensex gaine 87.80 points (0.11%) to reach 78,145.96, while the Nifty50 advanced 35.05 points (0.15%) to 23,638.40.

Investors are closely watching the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decision on interest rates, set to be announce after two days of deliberations. This decision is particularly significant as it will be the first under the leadership of the newly appointe RBI Governor, Sanjay Malhotra. Market participants are eager to understand the central bank’s stance on monetary policy, considering the prevailing economic conditions and global uncertainties.

According to a Business Standard poll, markets expect a 25 basis point cut in the repo rate, which would be the first reduction in five years.
