The Calcutta High Court has ordered a court-monitored CBI investigation into the Sandeshkhali case, which involves allegations of sexual violence and illegal land acquisitions by local Trinamool Congress leaders. The court has also instructed the CBI to look into the illegal conversion of agricultural land for pisciculture. These directives come amidst growing concerns about the seriousness of the allegations and the need for an impartial inquiry.

Courts Push for Transparency and Safety Measures in Sandeshkhali Case
To ensure transparency and public participation, the court has directed the launch of a portal/email ID for lodging complaints related to the case. Furthermore, it requires the District Magistrate to extensively publicize this initiative in the local language. Additionally, the court has ordered the installation of CCTV cameras and LED street lights in Sandeshkhali within 15 days, with the state providing the necessary funding.
The court closely monitors the progress of the investigation and schedules a follow-up hearing on May 2nd. The Sandeshkhali case drew attention following an attack on Enforcement Directorate officials during a raid at the residence of suspended Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan, who is implicated in a ration distribution scam. Bengal Police arrested Sheikh Shahjahan on February 29th in connection with the assault, further complicating ongoing legal proceedings regarding the allegations.
