The 21.8-kilometer Atal Setu connects Mumbai’s Sewri to Nhava Sheva in Raigad as a crucial component of the Mumbai-Trans-Harbour Link.
PM Modi will inaugurate Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu today, marking the completion of the Mumbai-Trans-Harbour Link. India’s longest sea bridge, costing ₹17,840 crore, spans 21.8 km, connecting Mumbai’s Sewri to Nhava Sheva in Raigad district.
In December 2016, authorities originally named the bridge Atal Setu in honor of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. A milestone in Indian infrastructure, the project cuts travel time between locations from 2 hours to 15-20 minutes,a substantial improvement.
Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, highlighted the use of innovative technologies in the bridge’s construction, including environmentally friendly lighting that doesn’t disturb aquatic life.

The Mumbai-Trans-Harbour-Link sets a maximum speed limit of 100 kmph for four-wheelers, cars, taxis, light motor vehicles, minibuses, and two-axle buses. The bridge imposes a speed limit of 40 kmph on its ascent and descent. However, it does not allow motorbikes, auto rickshaws, tractors, motorcycles, mopeds, three-wheelers, animal-drawn vehicles, and slow-moving vehicles.
Mumbai-bound heavy vehicles, trucks, and buses should use Mumbai-Port-Sewri Exit(Exit 1C) and MBPT Road near ‘Gadi-Adda’ for efficient traffic management.
In addition to inaugurating the bridge, Prime Minister Modi will unveil projects worth over ₹30,500 crore in Maharashtra, including the foundation stone laying of an underground road tunnel connecting Eastern Freeway’s Orange Gate and the launch of Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan in the state.
