Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron held high-level talks in Mumbai on Wednesday. The leaders decided to elevate bilateral relations to a Special Global Strategic Partnership. Their discussions covered defence cooperation, critical minerals, advanced technology, and innovation sectors. Officials confirmed that the meeting produced twenty-one significant agreements across diverse strategic areas.
Modi emphasized that the strengthened framework will promote stability amid unpredictable global dynamics. He described the evolving cooperation as a source of progress during uncertain international conditions. Macron called India one of France’s most reliable and trusted global partners. Both sides reiterated their commitment to expanding long-term collaboration across emerging industries.

Bilateral talks pave the way for expanded defence production and high-tech partnership
The leaders highlighted growing defence ties, including collaboration on Rafale fighter jets. They also discussed ongoing and future submarine development and maritime security cooperation. Macron affirmed plans to deepen military coordination through joint production and technology sharing. Both countries aim to strengthen defence manufacturing capabilities through expanded industrial partnerships.
Modi announced joint plans to manufacture a high-altitude helicopter in India. He stated that the aircraft will operate at extreme elevations, including Mount Everest. The project will position India as a global hub for specialized helicopter production. Authorities plan to export the aircraft worldwide after completing domestic manufacturing facilities.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the initiative will boost aeronautical manufacturing capacity.
The project will generate employment opportunities and enhance advanced technical workforce skills. Officials said the collaboration will accelerate self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Modi described the evolving relationship as crucial for ensuring long-term global stability and progress.
