The Ministry of Home Affairs revoked the FCRA license of the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), citing regulatory violations. CPR’s license, suspended earlier, was officially canceled on January 10, as reported.

CPR’s President, Yamini Aiyar, conveyed that the organization operated within legal boundaries, emphasizing its decades-long commitment to providing high-quality research. The FCRA cancellation, deemed disproportionate and lacking fair hearing, is distressing.

FCRA Suspension Hinders Foreign Fund Usage for Indian Nonprofits by Ministry

In accordance with the law, non-profit organizations in India must register under the FCRA to receive foreign donations. The suspension of the license prevents nonprofits from utilizing both existing and acquiring new foreign funds without approval from the home ministry.

CPR’s FCRA License Suspended, Extended Amid Regulatory Scrutiny

FCRA license been suspended on February 27, 2023, for period of six months, which later extended for additional six months. Established in 1973, CPR is one of India’s oldest and most prominent think tanks and research centers. It came under scrutiny by the Income Tax authorities in September 2022.
