Om Birla was congratulate by Congressman Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Modi after the victory, and they both led him to the Speaker’s chair. Today, Prime Minister Modi stated that Birla’s previous tenure as Speaker would serve him in leading the nation going forward. He faced up against K Suresh, the Congress candidate, who announced his candidature following last night’s breakdown in negotiations between the opposition and the ruling party.

Rajnath Singh Seeks Consensus on Om Birla’s Nomination
In an attempt to reach an agreement on Om Birla’s nomination, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke with Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha and president of the Congress, as well as other opposition figures on Monday night.

Congress sources claim that when Kharge brought up the Deputy Speaker during their conversation, he told it be dealt with early on Tuesday. But without addressing the Deputy Speaker problem, the ruling party asked for signatures on Birla’s candidature papers shortly before Tuesday’s noon deadline for Speaker candidates.
