Expired Chocolates Dumped in Kanpur, People Rush to Take Them Home

A shocking incident in Kanpur has drawn attention after a crowd gathered to collect expired chocolates dumped near a roadside garbage site. The incident reportedly took place in the Panki industrial area, where a truck allegedly arrived with cartons of chocolates and toffees. Soon after the products were dumped, several people rushed to the spot and began taking them away. A video of the incident was later recorded and shared on social media.

Crowd Rushed to Collect the Chocolates

According to the person who recorded the video, he was passing through the area when he noticed the truck unloading several boxes. People quickly gathered around the dumping site and started collecting the chocolates. Some filled bags, sacks and boxes with the discarded products. Others were seen carrying cartons on their shoulders or taking them away on bicycles and motorcycles. The visuals showed people scrambling to collect as many chocolates as possible.

The person who filmed the incident claimed that the chocolates had already crossed their expiry date. He reportedly checked the packaging and found that several products had expired in 2024. However, many people collecting the chocolates appeared not to check the expiry details before taking them. The videographer said he tried to warn people against consuming the products. Despite his warning, the crowd continued collecting the chocolates.

Viral Video Raises Food Safety Concerns

The incident has raised concerns over both food safety and the manner in which expired products were disposed of. Social workers reportedly questioned why expired chocolates were dumped at an open roadside location. They warned that people could fall sick if they consumed food products that were unfit for sale. The video also sparked reactions online, with many viewers expressing concern over people taking discarded food items without checking their safety.

Kanpur police have also taken note of the viral video. DCP West SM Qasim Abidi said authorities had received information about the incident involving expired chocolates. The Panki police station in-charge has been directed to investigate the matter. Officials are expected to determine where the chocolates came from and how they were disposed of. Further action, including registration of an FIR, will depend on the findings of the investigation.
