Cabinet Approval for PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: Rooftop Solar Installation for One Crore Households

In a meeting led by PM Modi, the Union cabinet granted approval for the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY), which involves the installation of rooftop solar systems in one crore households across the country. The scheme comes with a total outlay of ₹75,021 crore. Union Minister Anurag Thakur, during a briefing to reporters, announced the approval and highlighted that under this initiative, one crore families will receive 300 units of free electricity each month.

PM Modi, emphasizing the initiative’s commitment to sustainable development and the welfare of the people, shared in posts on X (formerly Twitter) that the project involves an investment exceeding Rs. 75,000 crores and aims to illuminate one crore households through the provision of monthly free electricity.
