As a New Year gift to the poor, the Narendra Modi government. Will launch a household survey to provide 2 crore additional houses across the country. The survey, a key BJP election promise in 2024, is set to be complete by March 31, 2025
CNN-News18 has obtained a copy of the Centre’s communication to all states, dated December 27. The document states that the survey will be conducte using the Awaas+ 2024 App to identify eligible households. It urges state and UT officials to prioritize the survey and ensure. Its completion within three months, by March 31, 2025. Emphasizing that no eligible household should be exclude.

Modi Government Urges States to Use Awaas+ 2024 App for Comprehensive Housing Survey
Officials have confirmed that the survey for an additional one crore houses. Under the PM Awas (Urban) scheme is already underway. In its 2024 Lok Sabha election manifesto, the BJP pledged to deliver three crore. More houses under the PM Awas Yojana—two crore in rural areas and one crore in urban centers. The Modi government highlighted in the manifesto that it had completed four crore houses under this scheme during its first two terms. Launched in 2016, the PM Awas Yojana is regarde as a significant milestone for the BJP.
The survey will be conducte through both designate surveyors and a self-survey option, allowing individuals to use face authentication via the Awaas+ 2024 mobile application. States and UTs have already registered surveyors and assigned them to Gram Panchayats using the app. The Centre’s letter to the states emphasized that the app also facilitates self-surveys with face-based authentication to ensure complete coverage and inclusion of all eligible beneficiaries.

Designed to identify additional rural households eligible for benefits under the PM Awas Yojana, the app streamlines the process of recognizing and including more deprived households for housing assistance. This advanced platform uses AI-driven face authentication technology to conduct comprehensive household surveys and enables citizens to perform Aadhaar-based eKYC for self-surveys.
