Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, the representative for the Hindu party in the Gyanvapi Mosque case, expressed confidence on Thursday that they are approaching victory as the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) prepares to release its survey report. Jain informed ANI that the report would determine whether a ‘Shivling’ or a fountain existed in the disputed area. Following concerns about the ‘Wazu’ tank, where several fish died, the Hindu side requested court approval for cleaning and an ASI survey. The court directed them to apply to the Supreme Court, which they plan to do.
Jain stated, “I can say we will be on the verge of victory after the ASI survey report comes in,” expressing optimism about the outcome. He affirmed his belief that Gyanvapi would eventually be free from what he termed as “illegal encroachment.”

In a related development, the Varanasi district court mandated the ASI report’s public release, with hard copies provided to both parties. Advocate Hari Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side, asserted that evidence suggested the demolition of a temple to construct the mosque.
Supreme Court Approves Hindu Petition of Cleaning ‘Shivling’ in ‘Wazukhana’
Earlier, the Supreme Court had approved a petition from Hindu women petitioners to clean the ‘wazukhana’ area, where they had discovered a purported ‘Shivling,’ ensuring its hygiene. The Supreme Court had ordered the sealing of the ‘wazukhana’ in 2022. The court-mandated survey near the Kashi Vishwanath temple revealed the disputed structure, which Hindus labeled a ‘Shivling,’ while Muslims referred to it as a ‘fountain.’
The ongoing dispute centers on the ‘Wazu’ area, marking a contentious point in the Gyanvapi Mosque-Kashi Vishwanath temple case, with both sides laying claim to the structure discovered during the court-mandated survey in May 2022.
