Seven soldiers sustained injuries during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, officials said. The troops came under fire while conducting an operation in the Chatroo area and responded with force. Security teams evacuated the injured soldiers to a hospital shortly after the exchange.
The Indian Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps launched the operation, named Operation Trashi-I, around noon. Security forces established contact with terrorists in the Sonnar area, northeast of Chatroo, during a planned search operation carried out jointly with Jammu and Kashmir Police. The army said operations remain ongoing, with additional forces reinforcing the cordon under close coordination with civil authorities.

Officials said one search party encountered two to three foreign terrorists, allegedly linked to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad. The terrorists opened indiscriminate fire and hurled grenades while attempting to break the cordon. Troops retaliated, and reinforcements from the Army, CRPF, and police moved in to tighten the security ring. Both sides exchanged intermittent fire for some time.
Security forces have deployed drones, surveillance equipment, and sniffer dogs to speed up the operation. This marked the third encounter with terrorists in the Jammu region this year. Officials said security agencies have intensified counter-terror operations ahead of Republic Day, amid intelligence warnings about infiltration attempts by Pakistan-based handlers.
