The “Naatu Naatu” mania will not go away. Online searches for the worldwide hit song “RRR” have grown by an astounding 1,105% in the days following its Oscar win!
According to data on Google search trends, which was analysed by 6Takarakuji, a digital Japanese casino guide, the demand for the Telugu dance hit surged following the historic win.
According to the article, the song has amassed over 52.6 million views on TikTok since its release in March of last year, making it a popular choice.
Over ten years after AR Rahman’s anthem “Jai Ho” took home the top prize at the 2009 Oscars, “Naatu Naatu,” composed by Telugu master MM Keeravani, became the second Indian song to win an Oscar.
The upbeat song is picturised on an energetic dance performance by Ram Charan and Jr NTR. The song became viral for the hook-step choreo performed by the leads as well as the addictive ‘Naatu Naatu’ chorus. However, the track became a bona fide global juggernaut due to its underlying themes of challenging colonial domination and celebrating native cultures. The song struck a chord with many people in the US and Western Europe, as many are grappling with issues such as racism, anti-establishment.
The song was performed live at the 95th Academy Awards. The guests were treated to an electrifying live performance by the ‘Naatu Naatu’ singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava. The performance received a standing ovation from the audience.
