The recent cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh has caused catastrophic damage, completely destroying an entire village. Amidst this disaster, Anita Devi from Samej village shared her poignant account, underscoring the extent of the devastation.
Anita Devi, a resident of Samej, described how, on Wednesday night, she and her family were jolted awake by a loud noise. She recounted, “When we looked outside, the whole village was swept away. We ran to the Bhagwati Kali Mata temple in the village and spent the entire night there.” Her voice was filled with emotion as she recounted the harrowing experience.
Anita continued, “Only our house survived the devastation, but everything else was swept away before my eyes. Now, I don’t know who I should stay with.”
53 Missing and 6 Dead After Himachal Cloudburst
In a heartrending account, Bakhshi Ram, an elderly resident of Samej village, expressed his profound sorrow. With tears in his eyes, he recounted, “About 14 to 15 members of my family were swept away by the flood. I learned about the disaster at 2 am while I was in Rampur, so I survived. When I arrived here at 4 am, everything was devastated. Now, I am desperately searching for my loved ones, hoping that some might still be alive.”
As of Saturday, 53 people remain missing and six bodies have been recovered following the cloudburst and subsequent flash floods that caused widespread damage in the Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla regions of Himachal Pradesh, according to the District Disaster Management Authority.
Special Secretary DC Rana of the DDMA said that over sixty houses were washed away and several villages have been severely affected by the floods.
Restoration works are underway in Rampur where the cloudburst and following flashfloods damaged a road that connected Rampur and Samej regions.
