A powerful earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck the Bay of Bengal early Tuesday morning, sending tremors across Kolkata and multiple parts of West Bengal. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the seismic event occurred at 6:10 AM, prompting concern among residents in the affected areas. Although the quake had moderate intensity, people across several regions felt its impact, leading to momentary panic among locals. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, but they have not reported any immediate damage or casualties.

5.1-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Bay of Bengal, Triggers Tremors in Kolkata and Odisha
An official from the India Meteorological Department told news agency PTI that the earthquake struck near Puri in Odisha at a depth of 91 km in the Bay of Bengal. The official reported that the tremor occurred early in the morning at latitude 19.52 N and longitude 88.55 E.
Although the earthquake tremors briefly panicked Kolkata residents, authorities have not reported any immediate damage or casualties.
