The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has assumed responsibility for securing the Parliament complex, following a directive issued by the home ministry last week to change the security arrangements.

A deputy inspector general is in charge of at least 1,500 CISF agents who have assigned to Parliament. According to an official who wish to remain anonymous, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) squad that formerly stationed on the property has replace by the CISF.

CISF and PSS Jointly Handle Access Control as Delhi Police Withdrawn
“At the moment, the CISF is receiving assistance with access control from the staff of the Parliament Security Service (PSS), an internal security division of Parliament. Prior to the instructions, Delhi police also in charge of access control alongside PSS employees; however, police have since removed, and CISF is now collaborating with PSS. Both the CISF and PSS will do inspections and frisks on anyone entering the building until further orders are given, the officer stated.

CISF Commandos Replace CRPF Personnel for Emergency Response
The CRPF personnel assigned to the Parliament Duty Group primarily focused on countering potential infiltrators, stationed both in watchtowers and within the compound’s perimeter. However, they not tasked with screening visitors or lawmakers upon entry.

In response to heightened security concerns following a breach on December 13, wherein individuals managed to penetrate multiple layers of security and disrupt proceedings within the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the CISF to conduct a thorough security assessment. Subsequently, elite CISF commandos have been deploy to replace the CRPF team, with a specific focus on swiftly addressing emergencies and potential armed infiltrations, rather than routine screening duties.

CISF Protects Vital Infrastructure and VIPs with Precision and Vigilance
Approximately 200,000 individuals make up the CISF, which guards at least 356 vulnerable locations, including nuclear power facilities, coal mines, and airports. The CISF also guards numerous government installations in left-wing extremist areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Chhattisgarh. People like National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh are covered by Z plus security by the CISF’s VIP protection section.
