Central trade unions and several farmer organisations are observing a nationwide Bharat Bandh on February 12. Protesters are opposing the new labour codes, privatisation measures and wage-related concerns. Union leaders expect participation from millions of workers across different sectors. Authorities anticipate disruptions to daily activities in several regions. Bank employee associations have urged members to join the strike, and therefore many public sector bank branches may function with reduced staff. In protest-affected areas, traders may shut markets and small businesses during demonstrations.

Bharat Bandh likely to affect Banks and transport
Bharat Band Protest marches and road blockades may disrupt transport services in many cities. Local buses and private vehicles may operate irregularly where demonstrations gather strength. Some schools and colleges may suspend classes if local administrations consider safety conditions uncertain. Officials will assess the situation continuously and issue local advisories. Authorities have advised residents to check updates before travelling or visiting banks and government offices. Demonstrators may organise rallies in busy areas, which could slow movement and create temporary traffic congestion.
However, authorities plan to maintain essential services across the country. Hospitals, ambulances and emergency responders will continue operations normally. Railways and airports will run scheduled services, although minor delays may occur. Power utilities, water departments and fire services will also operate without interruption. Many private offices and online services may continue work as usual. Organisers say the protest seeks to protect workers’ and farmers’ interests and to highlight policy decisions they believe threaten livelihoods.
In several industrial belts, workers have stopped production and joined demonstrations. Factory unions are holding rallies and submitting memorandums to district authorities. Farmer organisations are also staging sit-ins at local administrative offices. Protest leaders say they want dialogue with the government over labour protections and social security measures.
