Mahant Satyendra Das, the 85-year-old head priest of the Ayodhya Ram Temple, was admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences earlier this month after suffering a brain stroke. Following the stroke, he was placed under intensive medical supervision as doctors closely monitored his condition. Despite receiving advanced medical care, his health continued to decline, leading to concerns among his followers and devotees.
The hospital stated that Mahant Satyendra Das, the chief priest of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, passed away today. Doctors had admitted him to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the neurology ward on February 3 after he suffered a stroke and was in critical condition.

Mahant Satyendra Das: A Dedicated Servant of the Ram Temple and Witness to History
Since the age of 20, Mahant Satyendra Das had served as the head priest of the temple, including during the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992.
Hailing from the Nirvani Akhara, he made himself one of the most accessible saints in Ayodhya, becoming the go-to person for many media professionals across the country seeking information on Ayodhya and Ram temple developments.

Mahant Satyendra Das had been serving as the chief priest for only nine months when the Babri Masjid was demolished on December 6, 1992. After the demolition, he continued his role as the head priest, leading prayers for the Ram Lalla idol under a makeshift tent.
Vishva Hindu Parishad’s Ayodhya-based spokesman, Sharad Sharma, expressed his condolences on Das’s passing.
“He earned widespread respect and deeply understood the history of the Ayodhya movement. We mourn his death,” Mr. Sharma said.
