Anurag Kumar Takes Charge as Delhi Police Commissioner
Anurag Kumar brings decades of policing and intelligence experience to his new role. During his tenure at the Intelligence Bureau, he handled several key national security assignments. His appointment follows the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Centre also approved his return to the AGMUT cadre before assigning him the responsibility of leading the Delhi Police. Officials expect his intelligence background to strengthen policing in the national capital.
The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that Kumar’s appointment takes effect from the day he assumes office. The official order stated that he will serve as Delhi Police Commissioner until further directions from the competent authority. With this appointment, the government has entrusted him with overseeing law and order, public safety, and policing across the national capital. He now takes charge of one of India’s largest and most important police forces.
Satish Golcha Relieved Before Scheduled End of Tenure
Meanwhile, the Centre relieved Satish Golcha from the post nearly 11 months before his scheduled retirement as Delhi Police Commissioner. Golcha, a 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, was expected to continue in the role until May next year. His early removal has drawn attention and sparked discussions about the reasons behind the decision. However, the government has not officially explained the move.
Following his transfer, Satish Golcha has been directed to report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his next posting. The leadership transition comes at a crucial time for the Delhi Police, which continues to handle security, law enforcement, and public order in the capital. With Anurag Kumar now at the helm, attention will focus on his priorities and administrative approach. His extensive experience in intelligence is expected to play a key role in shaping future policing strategies.
