Lisa is an AI-generated news anchor in India.Lisa’s slow blinking and stuttering motion was disturbing to witness up close.Even yet, I believe newsreaders should be concerned about their job security.Add news anchors to the list of vocations under threat from artificial intelligence – a quiet takeover of the news reader’s desk has now arrived in India.
AI-generated anchors in India first presented news in April, with Lisa, a news presenter on Odisha TV, appearing human-like but unsettling due to her slow blinking and stuttering motion.
Lisa, a robotic presenter, struggles with tone shifts and audio/video sync issues, but her delivery is satisfactory. She can be found on Odisha TV’s Twitter account. Videos show Lisa’s name but do not explicitly mention her AI-generated status.
Lisa, an AI news reader, is a popular 24-hour medium in offices, cafes, and hospitals. She joins other AI-generated presenters in Indonesia, Taiwan, Kuwait, Malaysia, and China, making her an acceptable match for newsrooms. The robotic revolution is already underway.
It’s unclear how Lisa’s arrival affect the jobs of others in her newsroom, or whether the change was motivate by cost-cutting efforts.
“Lisa is going to be a great partner,” Odisha TV’s managing director, Jagi Mangat Panda, told the South China Morning Post. [It] handles monotonous and data-driven tasks, allowing journalists to focus on new approaches and more creative work.”
