Mumbai local argument over doorway ends in fatal stabbing; accused said he felt humiliated

A 30-year-old passenger allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old clothing store employee to death aboard a Mumbai local train after an argument over keeping the coach door closed during heavy rain. Police said the accused felt humiliated after the victim and other passengers confronted him for opening the door, prompting him to attack the victim multiple times before fleeing. Authorities later arrested him in Panvel as he allegedly tried to escape to his hometown in Karnataka.


As the two men stood near the train door, they got into an argument after one of them allegedly opened it despite heavy rain. Police said the accused reacted violently after the victim reportedly asked him to keep the door closed and told him to “shut it,” leading to a fatal stabbing.


The two men were standing near one of the doors of the first-class coach, which passengers had kept closed to stop rainwater from entering the compartment during heavy showers. According to police, the accused allegedly opened the door despite the weather, prompting the 21-year-old clothing store employee and other commuters to ask him to keep it shut.

The exchange soon escalated into a heated argument. Investigators said the victim reportedly told the accused to “shut it,” a remark that allegedly left him feeling insulted and humiliated. As tensions rose, the accused allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked the victim, stabbing him multiple times before fleeing the train.

Police arrest accused in Mumbai Panvel as probe examines CCTV footage and possible alcohol influence.

Police later tracked down and arrested the accused in Panvel while he was allegedly trying to escape to his hometown in Karnataka. Authorities are also investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.


Police reached the scene within minutes after receiving information about the stabbing at the railway station. Officers quickly secured the area and shifted the injured victim, Lohar, to a nearby hospital, where doctors immediately began emergency treatment to save his life.

Despite the medical team’s efforts, Lohar had suffered multiple serious injuries and succumbed to them shortly after being admitted. Doctors declared him dead, and police later sent his body for a post-mortem examination as part of the investigation.

Following the attack, investigators launched an extensive search to trace the accused. Police teams collected statements from eyewitnesses, examined CCTV footage from railway stations, and reviewed other evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify the suspect.

The investigation eventually led officers to Panvel, where they arrested the accused while he was allegedly trying to flee to his hometown in Karnataka. Police have registered a case and are continuing their probe, including whether the accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
