Enhancing runway integrity and maintenance
Mumbai Airport’s two runways temporarily closed today, May 9, as announced by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) spokesperson. The closure will last for six hours, from 11 am to 5 pm. The airport handles about 950 flight movements daily. Runway 09/27 spans 3,448 meters in length and 60 meters in width, while runway 14/32 measures 2,871 meters in length and 45 meters in width.
Pre-Monsoon maintenance and repair work at mumbai airport
According to the spokesperson, both the primary runway 09/27 and the secondary runway 14/32 will be temporarily close for pre-monsoon maintenance and repair work. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has initiated this closure as part of its monsoon contingency plan.
A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) was issued in December to inform airlines and other stakeholders about the closure. This early notice allows for the rescheduling of flights, ensuring minimal disruption to operations and passenger travel. The airport, spanning approximately 1,033 acres, includes a network of runways, taxiways, and aprons. Maintenance efforts will focus on inspecting the runway surface for signs of wear and tear, both micro-texture and macro texture, resulting from daily operations. These measures aim to enhance the integrity of the airside strip. The release emphasizes that the maintenance work will not affect flight movements or inconvenience passengers.
