During a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the Maharashtra Cabinet has declared the renaming of eight railway stations in Mumbai. The new names are chosen to reflect local history and culture, replacing those with colonial-era origins. These stations are located on Mumbai’s train network, including the Western, Central, and Harbour lines managed by the Central Railway and the Western Railway.

The renamed stations and their new designations are:
- Curry Road: Lalbaug
- Sandhurst Road: Dongri
- Marine Lines: Mumbadevi
- Cotton Green: Kalachowki
- Charni Road: Girgaon
- Dockyard Road: Mazgaon
- King Circle: Tirthankar Parshivnath

Sandhurst Road station is being treated as two stations because it serves both Central and Harbour lines. Once it’s approved by the government, the proposal will be sent to the Union Home Ministry and the Railway Ministry. The state government has already sent a proposal to change Mumbai Central Station’s name to Nana Jagannath Shankarsheth Station to the Union government
