Kolkata Man Threatens Tourist in Scam Attempt

A foreigner’s first day in Kolkata turned bad. A taxi driver scammed and harassed him. Dustin, a travel creator, recorded the ordeal. The driver threatened him claiming “mafia” ties. Dustin shared it on YouTube: “Taxi Driver in Kolkata Tried to Cheat and Threaten Me.”

Dustin landed in Kolkata and headed to his hotel. He chose a local taxi over Uber. He told the driver: Park Street’s Hotel Great Western. But the taxi went 15 km opposite, to a different hotel. It was The Western in Rajarhat, far off.

“I showed you the hotel first, we agreed to this, and then you took me to the wrong hotel,” Mr Dustin told the driver in the now-viral video.

Fare Dispute Escalates

The driver first asked for Rs 700. Dustin refused to pay for the wrong drop. The cabbie admitted his mistake. He then raised the fare to Rs 900.

Dustin stood firm, offering only Rs 700. The argument grew more heated. Another driver in a red shirt appeared. He sat beside the original driver. He tried to help, but things soon worsened.

Dustin explained the confusion. The man in red demanded Rs 1000. He told the driver, “I’ll break his bones.” This clear threat was filmed. They convinced Dustin to switch cabs to Park Street. But the man in red demanded Rs 100 extra. Total demanded was Rs 800. He also told the new driver to take Rs 400.

Kolkata Cab Ride Turns Nightmare

A 50-minute ride became a 1 hour 20-minute horror. Dustin told viewers, “I should’ve been at the hotel by now.” He captioned, “I’ll never use random airport taxis.” He’ll always use Uber from now on. Uber fares for the same route were Rs 500-600. “I agreed to Rs 700 for convenience,” he said. He was told about a Rs 150 parking fee mid-journey. This was not disclosed earlier. Despite troubles, Dustin said his India opinion won’t spoil. “This won’t make me hate the country,” he clarified. It’s just common in taxis and airports.
