SpiceJet Faces Passenger Anger After Dubai Flights Delayed for 24 Hours

Passengers at Delhi airport staged protests after two SpiceJet flights to Dubai faced delays of more than 24 hours. The prolonged disruption left travellers frustrated as they waited for clear information about their departure. Passengers raised slogans against the airline and demanded immediate answers from officials. The situation became tense as travellers also sought food, accommodation and proper assistance. The affected flights, SG 5111 and SG 5105, were scheduled to leave Delhi on Monday. However, operational difficulties pushed their departure times into Tuesday and Wednesday.

Long Delays Leave Passengers Stranded

SpiceJet scheduled flight SG 5111 to leave Delhi at 7:45 am on Monday. The airline initially moved its departure to 9 am on Tuesday. Flight SG 5105 had a scheduled departure time of 6:45 pm Monday. Officials later rescheduled that flight to 12:30 pm Tuesday. Aviation data showed further changes to both departure schedules. SG 5111 eventually left Delhi around 2 pm on Tuesday. Meanwhile, SG 5105 faced another delay and moved to 1 am Wednesday. The extended delays forced passengers to remain at the airport for several hours. Many travellers demanded clear updates from the airline regarding their revised departure times.

Passengers staged sit-in protests on Monday and continued their demonstrations on Tuesday. They demanded accommodation, food and drinking water during the prolonged wait. Several passengers also complained about the absence of SpiceJet representatives at the airport. Airport staff eventually stepped in and helped manage the situation. They provided passengers with food and water and arranged a resting area. Videos from the airport showed frustrated travellers sitting together and questioning the airline’s handling of the disruption. Some passengers also expressed anger over the lack of timely communication from SpiceJet staff.

SpiceJet Airline Cites Operational Reasons for Delay

A video from the airport showed a passenger confronting an airport official over recording restrictions. The official reportedly asked the passenger to stop recording the situation. The exchange further increased tension among passengers already upset by the delays. One traveller criticised the lack of SpiceJet staff and questioned the airline’s response. Passengers said they had spent significant amounts on their flights and expected better assistance. They also demanded either proper arrangements or refunds if the airline could not operate their flights. The protests highlighted the growing frustration caused by the prolonged uncertainty at Delhi airport.

SpiceJet later issued a statement explaining that operational reasons caused the delays. The airline said the grounding of an aircraft affected the operations of both Dubai-bound flights. The carrier said it was arranging alternate flights for passengers affected by the disruption. SpiceJet also apologised for the inconvenience caused to travellers. The airline said it was making efforts to reduce the impact of the delays and accommodate passengers. However, the prolonged disruption continued to draw criticism from those stranded at the airport. The incident has once again raised concerns about passenger communication during major flight disruptions.
