Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Home Minister Ordered Student Shootings’ Remark Sparks Political Storm

The Lok Sabha witnessed a major uproar after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of being responsible for the police action against students during the July 20 protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Gandhi made the remarks while participating in the debate on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill. He alleged that the use of force against protesting students required authorization from the Home Minister or the Prime Minister. His statement immediately triggered strong protests from BJP and NDA members, who demanded that he provide evidence to support his claims.

Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks Trigger Protests in Lok Sabha

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly objected to Gandhi’s allegations and described them as baseless. He asked the Congress leader to either substantiate the charges or withdraw them. Several NDA MPs also demanded an apology, arguing that such serious accusations should not be made without proof. As the protests intensified, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla intervened and reminded members that Parliament requires evidence before making allegations against any individual. The Speaker urged all members to maintain the dignity of the House.

The controversy stems from the July 20 protest organized at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators attempted to march toward Parliament under the “Sansad Chalo” call. During the protest, clashes broke out between security personnel and demonstrators. Police used crowd-control measures, including tear gas, lathi charges, and pellet guns, to disperse the gathering. The protest focused on alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and demands for a transparent and accountable education system. Several students reportedly sustained injuries during the confrontation.

NDA MPs Demand Evidence and Apology Over Amit Shah Allegation

After addressing the House, Rahul Gandhi defended his remarks while speaking to reporters outside Parliament. He argued that responsibility for the police action ultimately rested with the Union Home Minister. Gandhi also criticized the government’s education policies and alleged that the RSS influenced the functioning of the education system. During his speech, he shared conversations with students about humility, open-mindedness, and the value of learning. Some of his comments drew objections from the Chair, which later directed that certain unparliamentary expressions be removed from the official proceedings.

The exchange highlighted the continuing political confrontation between the ruling alliance and the opposition over student protests and education reforms. The BJP accused the Congress leader of making unverified allegations, while the opposition continued to question the government’s handling of student demonstrations. The issue sparked intense debate inside and outside Parliament and drew widespread political attention. The controversy is expected to remain in focus as both sides continue to defend their positions on the matter.
