A fire erupted at an ISKCON camp in Maha Kumbh Nagar, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday, according to fire officials speaking to PTI. The incident occurred at Sector 18, Shankaracharya Marg, within the Maha Kumbh Mela area.
Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma told PTI, “Upon receiving reports of the fire at the ISKCON camp in Sector 18, we promptly sent fire engines to the location. We have now completely controlled the fire.”
Thick smoke engulfed the fair area, causing panic among the nearby akhadas. PTI reported that no casualties have occurred, but the fire spread to over a dozen nearby camps, causing considerable damage.
Inspector Yogesh Chaturvedi from Khak Chowk police station stated earlier, “A fire broke out at a camp near Tulsi Chauraha on Old GT Road. However, firefighters have largely brought the blaze under control.”
He added that fire department officials were on-site to manage the operation. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage.
This is the third time that fire incidents have occurred in the Kumbh Mela area.

Major fire broke out at Maha Kumbh Mela last month
A similar incident took place last month when a major fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela due to a cylinder blast, injuring one person and engulfing 18 tents in Sector 19.
Officials stated that 15 fire tenders managed to control the blaze within an hour. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was in Prayagraj to assess preparations for Mauni Amavasya, also visited the site and instructed authorities to take measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Jaspreet fainted and injured his leg while fleeing the fire, and authorities took him to the Maha Kumbh Mela hospital. After receiving first aid, doctors transferred him to Swaruprani Medical College, where they reported his condition as stable. Authorities sealed off the affected area for pilgrims, while onlookers recorded the flames and smoke.
Kumbh Mela Fire Officer Pramod Sharma stated that they deployed 15 fire tenders to control the blaze, which spread to 18 tents. Akhada Police In-charge Bhaskar Mishra mentioned that two LPG cylinders exploded in Sector 19, intensifying the fire.
