PM Modi to Launch Pamban Bridge on Ram Navami

On April 6, PM Modi will visit Ramanathswamy Temple in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, for Ram Navami prayers. He will also inaugurate the new Pamban Bridge during his visit. This bridge replaces the old 1914-built structure, which was shut down in 2022 due to corrosion issues.

In November 2024, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called it “India’s first vertical lift railway sea bridge” on X. He stated the 1914-built Pamban Rail Bridge connected the mainland to Rameswaram for 105 years before decommissioning in December 2022. Its closure due to corrosion led to the construction of the New Pamban Bridge, enhancing connectivity. The bridge spans 2.5 km and was built by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) at a cost of ₹535 crore.
