Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted a saffron flag atop the Ayodhya Ram Temple on Tuesday, marking the formal completion of the temple’s construction. He performed the ceremony in the presence of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Devotees thronged Ayodhya from early morning, filling the city with chants of “Jai Shri Ram” as priests completed the final rituals before the Prime Minister’s arrival.
The triangular flag, ten feet tall and twenty feet long, bore the image of a radiant Sun, the sacred ‘Om,’ and the Kovidara tree. Temple officials explained that the hoisting took place during the auspicious Abhijit Muhurat. They added that the saffron colour symbolises sacrifice, dedication, and purity in Hindu tradition. The temple trust confirmed that the ceremony officially signified the end of the main construction phase.

Thousands of pilgrims reached Ayodhya to witness the ceremony, calling the moment the fulfilment of centuries of devotion and struggle. Elderly devotees described it as a day their ancestors had long awaited. Seers participating in the rituals described the event as historically transformative. Rituals inside the temple continued for four days ahead of the ceremony, maintaining a strict religious schedule. The city remained under tight security, with nearly 7,000 personnel deployed across Ayodhya. ATS commandos, NSG snipers, cyber teams, bomb squads, and anti-drone systems stayed active throughout the event.
Senior officers supervised crowd control, surveillance, and emergency response arrangements. Authorities checked vehicles at every entry point and maintained heightened alert around the temple complex. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi offered prayers at the Ram Darbar Garbh Grah and the Ram Lalla sanctum. He also visited the Saptmandir, Sheshavtar Mandir, and the Mata Annapurna temple. The temple complex showcases 87 carved stone panels depicting Valmiki Ramayana episodes and 79 bronze-cast scenes from Indian culture. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an on-site review a day earlier to ensure smooth arrangements and crowd movement.
