Nitish Heads to RS : Bihar CM Buzz Grows

Nitish Kumar is set to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, just four months after taking oath for a record tenth term as Chief Minister of Bihar. The development has intensified political activity in Patna and sparked fresh speculation over who might eventually take over the state’s top post. Leaders and party workers have begun closely watching the unfolding political moves. The nomination is expected to draw major attention in Bihar’s political circles.

The chief of Janata Dal (United) will arrive at the Assembly around 11:30 am along with other candidates of the National Democratic Alliance to submit his nomination papers. Senior leaders and party representatives are expected to accompany him during the process. The presence of top alliance figures has further heightened the political significance of the event. The nomination filing will take place amid tight political coordination among NDA partners.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah is also scheduled to be in Patna on the same day, adding further importance to the developments. The Rajya Sabha election in Bihar involves five seats, with nominations closing on Thursday. The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded its national president Nitin Nabin and Bihar unit general secretary Shivesh Kumar as candidates. NDA ally Upendra Kushwaha, chief of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, is also contesting with alliance support.

From JD(U), Union minister Ramnath Thakur will file his nomination as the party’s second candidate. The move comes after the NDA secured a decisive victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. Following the win, Nitish Kumar took oath as Chief Minister on November 20, 2025. Narendra Modi and several chief ministers from NDA-ruled states attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Sources within JD(U) indicate that Nitish Kumar may continue as Chief Minister at least until the Rajya Sabha election scheduled for March 16. If elected, he will add another landmark to his long political career. He has already served in the Lok Sabha, the Bihar Legislative Assembly, and the Bihar Legislative Council. A Rajya Sabha entry would place him among the rare leaders who have been members of all four major legislative forums in India.
