Netanyahu Issues Stark Warning to Iran
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Iran that Israel would respond with unprecedented force if Tehran launched an attack. Addressing the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, Netanyahu said Israel was closely monitoring developments in Iran amid heightened regional tensions following widespread protests and a violent crackdown.
“If Iran makes a mistake and attacks us, we will act with a force it has not yet experienced,” Netanyahu said, according to a report by Xinhua.
Israel Closely Watches Unrest in Iran
Netanyahu said Israel was observing Iran’s internal situation as the country returned to an uneasy calm after weeks of nationwide protests. He suggested that Iran faced irreversible changes, stating that the country would not return to its previous state. His remarks implied serious consequences for Tehran if it escalated tensions with Israel.
US Military Movement Raises Regional Tensions
Netanyahu’s warning came amid reports that the United States had begun moving the nuclear-powered USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group toward the Middle East. The deployment followed a standoff between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s violent crackdown on anti-government protesters.
Ship-tracking data reviewed by the Associated Press showed the USS Abraham Lincoln and several accompanying US naval vessels passing through the Strait of Malacca after leaving the South China Sea. The carrier group appeared headed toward the Middle East, although it would require several days before its aircraft could operate in the region.
Deadly Crackdown on Iranian Protesters
Human rights activists reported that Iranian security forces killed at least 4,029 people during the nationwide protests. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency said authorities also detained more than 26,000 individuals during the crackdown.
According to the group, the dead included 3,786 demonstrators, 180 members of the security forces, 28 children, and 35 people not involved in the protests. Activists fear the actual death toll may be higher, as Iran’s government restricted internet access, making independent verification difficult.
US–Iran Relations Remain Strained
Tensions between the United States and Iran continued to escalate after US President Donald Trump drew red lines over the killing of peaceful protesters and the possibility of mass executions. American officials signaled concern as Iran’s actions intensified scrutiny over potential military and diplomatic responses in the region.
