The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is at the center of a controversy following the Asia Cup 2025 final, with sources confirming that the trophy has been handed over to the UAE cricket board instead of the winning Indian team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly seeking Naqvi’s impeachment over the incident, which they describe as a serious breach of conduct.

The BCCI alleges that Naqvi’s refusal to present the Asia Cup trophy to India violated established ceremonial protocols and his responsibilities as ACC chief, causing embarrassment and damaging the reputation of both the ACC and the International Cricket Council (ICC). According to insiders, Naqvi’s actions—taking the trophy and medals to his hotel room after walking out of the presentation—amount to a ‘trophy stealing’ act motivated by personal or political reasons.
During a recent virtual ACC meeting, BCCI officials Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar confronted Naqvi, insisting that the trophy rightfully belongs to India and calling on him to formally congratulate the victorious Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav. Naqvi, however, refused to do so.
The BCCI views Naqvi’s conduct as a clear conflict of interest and a violation of fair play principles, accusing him of mixing politics with sport and undermining the integrity of cricket administration. While the ACC has expressed regret over the incident, Naqvi has yet to issue a formal apology. The BCCI intends to escalate the issue to the ICC, with plans to raise it at the forthcoming ICC meeting in November.
