Court Dismisses Challenge on Ministers’ Remarks about Sanatan Dharma
The Madras High Court, on Wednesday, rejected petitions that questioned the eligibility of Tamil Nadu ministers Udhayanidhi Stalin and Sekar Babu as legislators due to their comments on Sanatan Dharma. Justice Anita Sumanth ruled that Stalin, by likening Sanatana Dharma to HIV, malaria, and dengue, went against Constitutional principles and propagated misinformation.

Supreme Court Criticizes Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Remarks on ‘Sanatana Dharma’
Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court strongly criticized Udhayanidhi Stalin for his controversial statement suggesting the eradication of ‘Sanatana Dharma’ from the country, asserting that he had misused his freedom of speech. The bench, led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, was addressing Udhayanidhi’s request to consolidate FIRs from various states related to his remarks, as the cause of action was deemed identical in all cases. Justice Dipankar Datta, part of the two-judge bench, questioned Udhayanidhi about the consequences of his statements, highlighting potential violations of Article 19(1)(a) and Article 25 rights.
