Advani’s Previous Hospitalisations and Political Legacy

He last visited Apollo Hospital in May this year after experiencing age-related health complications. Medical professionals treated him for several days before discharging him. Earlier, Advani entered the intensive care unit (ICU) at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in December 2024. Doctors conducted medical investigations and provided treatment under a neurologist’s supervision. Hospital officials described his condition as stable during that admission. On December 17, 2024, the hospital reported gradual improvement in Advani’s health. Officials expected doctors to transfer him from the ICU within the following one or two days.
Born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi, present-day Pakistan, Advani became one of India’s most influential political leaders.

He played a pivotal role in expanding the BJP’s national presence and strengthening its organisational structure. Advani served multiple terms as BJP president and helped transform the party into a major political force. His 1990 Ram Rath Yatra significantly influenced Indian politics and expanded the party’s public support. He served as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. During his political career, Advani also held important ministerial responsibilities, including the Home Affairs portfolio. In 2024, the Indian government conferred the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour, on Advani. He had previously received the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contributions to public life. Advani remains an important figure in the BJP’s history and India’s political landscape.
