A Mumbai resident recorded several luxury cars allegedly racing inside the Coastal Road tunnel late at night. The incident took place around 11:15 pm on September 3 on the southbound Coastal Road near Marine Drive. The video showed multiple high-performance cars speeding through the tunnel. After the footage gained traction on social media, Mumbai Police took action and registered a case against several drivers involved in the incident.

Luxury Cars Spotted Speeding Inside Tunnel

According to the police complaint, around six to seven cars were spotted speeding inside the tunnel without maintaining proper discipline. The vehicles reportedly included a black Lamborghini, a yellow BMW M2, a red BMW Z4 and a Volkswagen Virtus. Police Head Constable Satish Nivrutti Sangale filed the complaint following the incident. The drivers allegedly engaged in unsafe driving while travelling through the tunnel, raising concerns about the safety of other road users.

Mumbai Police have registered cases under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). These sections deal with negligent driving and acts that endanger life or personal safety. No arrests have been made so far. However, the police have reportedly identified the vehicles involved in the incident. Further action is expected against the drivers after the authorities complete their investigation.

Police Begin Action After Video Goes Viral

Street racing is not permitted on Mumbai roads, including the Coastal Road. People who want to experience high-speed driving can instead use dedicated racing facilities. Buddh International Circuit, India’s only Formula 1 circuit, conducts monthly open track days for car and motorcycle owners. Such controlled environments allow enthusiasts to push their vehicles while reducing the risks associated with speeding on public roads.

This is not the first incident involving a luxury car being booked for reckless driving. Earlier this year, Bengaluru Traffic Police booked a green Lamborghini Aventador SVJ after footage of the car circulated online. The video showed the Lamborghini weaving through traffic on Mysuru Road and overtaking other vehicles dangerously. While supercars are built for exceptional speed and performance, public roads are not racing tracks. Reckless driving can put the lives of drivers, pedestrians and other motorists at serious risk.
