Kinnar Akhara Expels Mamta Kulkarni, Laxmi Narayan for ‘Treason’

Kinnar Akhara’s founder, Rishi Ajay Das, issued a press statement on Friday announcing the expulsion of former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni from the Akhara.

Rishi Ajay Das also expelled Mahamandaleshwar Laxminarayan Tripathi from the Kinnar Akhara for alleged treason and stated that he had not approved Kulkarni’s appointment as Mahamandaleshwar.

In the statement, he mentioned that he removed Mahamandaleshwar Laxminarayan Tripathi from his position because he consistently deviated from the duties assigned to him, including religious propagation, rituals, and the upliftment of the Kinnar community.

Mamata Kulkarni’s appointment as Mahamandaleshwar

Mamta Kulkarni, a former actress known for her roles in popular 1990s films like ‘Karan Arjun’ and ‘Baazi’, visited the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj to offer prayers. During the event, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, Acharya Mahamandleshwar of Kinnar Akhara, declared that she had assumed a spiritual position as the Mahamandleshwar.

Laxmi Narayan Tripathi stated, “Kinnar Akhara is appointing Mamta Kulkarni as a Mahamandaleshwar, and she will carry the name Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri.”. The rituals are currently underway. She has been in contact with Kinnar Akhara and me for the past one and a half years.she stated, “If she wishes, we allow her to portray any devotional figure, as we do not prevent anyone from expressing their art.”

Kulkarni’s inclusion in the Akhara faced criticism from several members, including Transgender Kathavachak Jagatguru Himangi Sakhi Maa, who raised concerns about the legitimacy of the appointment due to the actress’s past controversies.

Himangi Sakhi Maa told, “Mamta Kulkarni’s appointment as Mahamandleshwar is for publicity. Her past, including jail time for drug cases, raises questions and needs investigation.”
