ISRO Satellite Shows Monsoon’s Massive Advance, Rain Clouds Blanket India

ISRO satellite imagery captured a dramatic surge in monsoon cloud cover across northern India on Wednesday morning. The latest thermal infrared images revealed dense cloud bands spreading rapidly across central and northern regions nationwide.

Moisture-rich clouds extended from central India into the Indo-Gangetic plains under strengthening southwest monsoon circulation patterns. Fresh weather systems developing over the Bay of Bengal accelerated cloud formation across several northern states simultaneously. These atmospheric changes produced widespread rainfall and strengthened hopes for an active monsoon during early July. The revival followed one of India’s driest Junes in more than a century, raising serious agricultural concerns.

ISRO images highlight the monsoon’s big push across India.

Prolonged rainfall shortages delayed kharif sowing across large parts of India, while persistent heatwaves affected millions in northern and central regions. Farmers waited anxiously for widespread rainfall to restore soil moisture and support timely agricultural operations before crucial cultivation deadlines. Meteorologists described the rapid expansion of monsoon cloud cover as a strong indication of improving weather conditions across northern India.

The India Meteorological Department confirmed further monsoon advancement into most parts of west Uttar Pradesh and several areas of east Haryana after widespread rainfall and thunderstorms. Officials said the latest advance marked another significant milestone following weeks of sluggish monsoon progress that caused severe rainfall deficits and intensified heatwave conditions. Weather experts expect the southwest monsoon to advance further over the next twenty-four hours, reaching Delhi-NCR, Chandigarh, Haryana, and Punjab

They forecast thunderstorms, gusty winds, and widespread rainfall as moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal strengthen monsoon circulation, bringing cooler temperatures, improving soil moisture, and boosting hopes for stronger agricultural recovery during July.
