India’s Tomahawk missile carried out a textbook-style launch test off the coast of Odisha

DRDO successfully tested its Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) after earlier setbacks in the Nirbhay programme. The agency launched the missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, Odisha, showcasing a new indigenous long-range strike capability.

DRDO Successfully Tests LRLACM Cruise Missile with 1,000 km Strike Range

During the June 15 trial, the missile hit its target at a range of about 1,000 kilometres, demonstrating improved accuracy and reliability. Officials called the test a “textbook success” and confirmed that engineers resolved all earlier technical issues.

The LRLACM flies at low altitude in subsonic mode, making it difficult for enemy radar systems to detect. It supports launch from multiple platforms and enables precision strikes deep inside hostile territory.

The missile travels at around Mach 0.8 and carries a 500-kilogram warhead, significantly boosting India’s conventional strike capability. Authorities will conduct additional developmental and user trials before induction into the armed forces.

The system builds on the Nirbhay programme with upgraded propulsion, navigation, and guidance systems. It strengthens India’s focus on self-reliant, long-range precision missile technology for modern warfare.
