India Successfully Test-Fires Pralay Missile Off Odisha Coast; Induction Expected Soon

India successfully test-fired its indigenously developed Pralay missile off the Odisha coast on Thursday. The successful launch marked another milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen its domestic defence capabilities.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) developed this advanced quasi-ballistic missile system. The missile took off from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha’s coastline. It belongs to the short-range, surface-to-surface missile category and carries conventional warheads. According to the Defence Ministry, Pralay can carry payloads weighing between 500 and 1,000 kilograms. Its advanced design provides India’s armed forces with additional operational capabilities. Following the successful flight-test, the Defence Ministry indicated that military induction could begin soon.

Defence Ministry Confirms Successful Trials as Pralay Missile Induction Approaches

The ministry stated that the missile’s induction into the armed forces had become imminent. This development follows the successful completion of the system’s user evaluation trials. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO scientists, defence personnel and industry partners. He praised their contributions towards achieving the successful flight-test. Singh said the missile incorporates advanced technologies that would strengthen India’s military capabilities. He also highlighted its potential to improve operational preparedness against emerging security threats. The Defence Ministry confirmed that the missile achieved all its designated test objectives.

Instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, recorded the flight data. Officials examined these readings and confirmed the successful completion of the test. DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad led the missile’s indigenous development. Several other DRDO laboratories also contributed to developing the advanced weapon system. Bharat Dynamics Limited participated as a development-cum-production partner. The company manufactured the missile system as part of the programme. Senior DRDO officials, defence representatives and industry partners witnessed the flight-test. Their presence ensured coordination between developers, military users and manufacturing partners. The successful trial advances India’s efforts to strengthen indigenous missile development and defence preparedness. The upcoming induction will add another domestically developed weapon system to India’s military inventory.
