Suicide: Blames wife, wants ashes to be thrown in drain

A 33-year-old engineer from Etawah, UP, died by suicide, accusing his wife and in-laws of harassment. Mohit Yadav recorded a video alleging threats and false cases by his in-laws. He said, “If I don’t get justice after my death, throw my ashes in the drain.”

Yadav checked into Jolly Hotel near Etawah railway station on Thursday. He did not leave his room the next morning. Hotel staff found him hanging in the evening, said SP Abhay Nath Tripathi.

Yadav, a resident of Auraiya, worked as a field engineer for a cement company. He and Priya were in a seven-year relationship before marrying in 2023.

Yadav claimed in the video that Priya was pregnant when her mother forced her to abort the child. He also alleged that his mother-in-law took all Priya’s jewelry. Yadav stated he never demanded dowry, but Priya threatened to file false cases against his family.

Yadav claimed his wife threatened to implicate his family in a dowry case if he didn’t transfer property. He alleged her father filed a false complaint and her brother threatened to kill him. Yadav said his wife started daily arguments, with her family supporting her. He ended the video apologizing to his parents and requesting his ashes be thrown into the drain if unjust.

Yadav criticized the lack of laws protecting men from false complaints, expressing his unbearable harassment. He stated that he wouldn’t have taken this step if such a law existed. Yadav had stopped in Etawah while traveling to Kota, said his brother Tareen Pratap. The family was shocked upon receiving his video on Friday morning.

The incident has raised calls for a law protecting men from false charges by women. Similar incidents, like Atul Subhash’s suicide, have sparked concern among men’s rights activists.
