Elon Musk’s comments came a day after the White House confirmed he holds no formal role in government decisions.
Elon Musk, co-chair of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), told Fox News in his first joint interview with President Donald Trump that he’s there to offer the Republican leader “technical support.”

Musk Provides Tech Support, DOGE Team Backs Executive Orders
Elon Musk told the media outlet that one of the biggest functions of the DOGE team is to ensure that the presidential executive orders are properly carried out.
With “tech support” printed on his T-shirt, the Tesla CEO said that he was present there to “provide the president with technology support”.

Musk Warns Against Bureaucracy Overriding Democracy
Elon Musk emphasized that the president, as the people’s elected representative, embodies their will. He warned that if the bureaucracy resists the president’s efforts to implement that will, the country risks becoming a bureaucracy, not a democracy.
His remarks gained significance after the White House clarified Musk’s role in the Trump administration. An official filing confirmed that Musk is not a formal DOGE employee and holds no authority to make government decisions.

Despite this, Trump tasked Musk with co-chairing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to cut the federal budget, including mass layoffs.

Musk Deflects Influence Concerns, Points to Unelected Federal Workforce
In his Fox News interview, Musk addressed concerns about his influence as an unelected advisor. He argued that people should worry more about the vast number of unelected federal employees in the civilian workforce.

Musk revealed that his team aims to reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars. Trump supported this, predicting that Musk would find that money and calling it a small fraction of the waste and abuse in government spending.
Musk clarified that he never asked Trump for any favors and promised to recuse himself from political decisions involving his companies or government contracts.

A White House filing by Joshua Fisher, Director of the Office of Administration, confirmed Musk’s position as a “non-career Special Government Employee” with the title of “Senior Advisor to the President.”
Recently, Musk made headlines as his DOGE team began targeting federal agencies like USAID and the Social Security Administration.
