Firing in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda Leaves One Dead, Three Soldiers Wounded

Security forces launched a late-night operation firing in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district after receiving intelligence about suspicious movement along the Jaie-Gandoh road. A Special Operations Group (SOG) team set up an ambush to intercept the suspect and prevent any potential security threat. At around 11:30 p.m., the team stopped a man firing for questioning. According to officials, the suspect allegedly turned aggressive during the interaction, attacked security personnel, and attempted to snatch a service rifle from one of the SOG officers. The confrontation quickly escalated into a physical struggle, prompting security personnel to respond immediately. Police tightened security after the Doda firing left one man dead

Rescue teams rushed the injured man and the three wounded SOG personnel to the Sub-District Hospital in Bhaderwah, where doctors provided emergency treatment. After assessing their condition, medical staff referred all four to the Government Medical College in Doda for specialized care. Despite continuous medical efforts, the injured man later succumbed to his bullet injuries. Authorities identified him as 30-year-old Aarif Hussain, a resident of Cheeka village in Doda district. Doctors continue to treat the three injured SOG personnel, and officials said they remain under medical observation. Senior police officers visited the hospital to review the condition of the injured officers and monitor the progress of the treatment. Authorities also informed the deceased man’s family and completed the required legal and medical formalities.

Police immediately began investigating the incident and collected evidence from the scene. Investigators recorded statements from the injured personnel, examined the service weapon involved in the firing, and gathered other forensic evidence. As part of the investigation, police detained a religious preacher for questioning after receiving certain leads. However, officials clarified that investigators have not established any direct connection between the preacher and the deceased. They emphasized that the questioning forms part of routine investigative procedures and urged the public not to draw conclusions before the investigation is complete. Authorities also appealed to residents to avoid circulating rumors or misleading information on social media, stating that only verified updates issued by official agencies should be considered authentic while the inquiry continues.
