Doctors Stir Today as BMC Fails to Implement Revised DA

Resident Doctors in BMC-run hospitals will begin a phased protest from Wednesday over pending implementation of revised dearness allowance. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors said talks with the civic body failed to resolve the issue. The association cited multiple meetings that produced no concrete outcome. Doctors have now decided to escalate their agitation.

BMC-MARD general secretary Dr Amar Agame announced that doctors will start the protest by wearing black ribbons. He said the demonstration will intensify in phases if demands remain unmet. they posted in outpatient departments will go on mass leave from Friday. The association warned of further steps if the delay continues.

Salary revision cleared but not implemented, say resident Doctors

The doctors said authorities approved revisions in dearness allowance three times but did not implement them. They stated that the cumulative increase of 31 percent has not reflected in their salaries. According to the association, each resident doctor should receive an additional amount after revision. They also claimed that arrears have reached nearly fifty thousand rupees per doctor.

The association explained that first-year residents currently receive a fixed amount as dearness allowance, which should increase after revision. Second- and third-year residents also expect similar hikes based on the approved percentages. Doctors said the revisions include multiple increases effective from mid-2024 and 2025. They added that authorities have yet to process these changes in payroll.

BMC officials attributed the delay to procedural issues and absence of an authorised signatory. Officials requested doctors to postpone the protest until the process is completed. However, the association decided to proceed with its plan due to continued delays. The protest may affect hospital services if it escalates further.
