New Delhi Removes Encroachments Outside Pak High Commission in Tit-for-Tat Move

New Delhi removed structures outside the Pakistan High Commission after officials found them beyond the approved diplomatic boundary.

Authorities used a JCB machine to demolish the structures and barricades erected along the lane outside the compound. The operation also removed queue-management installations positioned near the High Commission’s visa section for visitors. Officials dismantled the external security perimeter, including traffic bollards and barricades surrounding the diplomatic compound. The action followed Pakistan’s removal of protective security barricades outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad three days earlier. The parallel actions have drawn attention amid fresh tensions between India and Pakistan over diplomatic and political issues.

Delhi Move Follows Islamabad Barricade Removal

Visuals from New Delhi showed workers pulling down sections of corrugated roofing and white metal fencing. The demolition also damaged parts of the facade surrounding service windows, leaving plaster and masonry visibly broken. Construction debris and fragments of fencing remained scattered around the affected counters after authorities completed demolition work. The main entrance of the Pakistan High Commission remained intact throughout the operation in New Delhi. Its white walls, domed features and large metal gates bearing Pakistan’s emblem showed no visible damage.

Barbed-wire fencing remained visible along some sections of the compound’s outer perimeter after demolition. The development also followed Pakistan’s diplomatic protest over recent American comments concerning Kashmir. On Wednesday, Pakistani authorities summoned US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker to lodge a formal protest. The move followed remarks by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor during his Srinagar visit. Gor described Jammu and Kashmir as an important part of India during his remarks. He also praised the improving security situation across the Kashmir Valley during his visit. Pakistan objected strongly to the ambassador’s comments and raised the matter with Washington through diplomatic channels. However, neither India nor Pakistan has officially linked the New Delhi demolition to those recent remarks. The latest action nevertheless comes amid heightened diplomatic exchanges between the neighbouring countries. Officials have not indicated whether additional measures against diplomatic properties could follow soon.
