CRPF Launches Inquiry as Eight Assistant Commandants Skip Special DG’s Official Lunch

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has issued show cause notices to eight Assistant Commandants, including one woman officer, after they allegedly failed to attend an official working lunch hosted by Amit Kumar, IPS, Special Director General (Central Zone), during a training programme. According to an internal communication, the officers were participating in the GO’s Tech Course, where attendance at the working lunch formed part of the official schedule. The CRPF has treated the matter as a disciplinary issue and sought written explanations from all the officers concerned. The force considers participation in official training-related engagements an important aspect of professional conduct and service discipline. Consequently, headquarters initiated formal proceedings and instructed the concerned units to ensure that the officers comply with the directions without further delay.

CRPF Says Officers Missed Reply Deadline

According to the internal communication, CRPF headquarters had already issued the first show cause notice on June 30, 2026, directing the officers to submit their explanations within three days of receiving the notice. However, more than a month has passed, and the headquarters has reportedly not received responses from the concerned units. After reviewing the matter, the force issued a fresh communication reminding the units to immediately obtain and forward the officers’ replies. The delay prompted the CRPF to escalate the matter and seek urgent compliance. Officials stated that timely responses are necessary to complete departmental proceedings and ensure that administrative processes move forward without unnecessary delays. The force has therefore asked all concerned formations to act on priority.

In its latest communication, the CRPF classified the matter as “Most Urgent” and instructed the concerned units to secure immediate written explanations from the officers. The communication also warned that if the officers fail to submit their responses within the stipulated time, the force may assume that they have nothing to state in their defence. In such a situation, the department could proceed with ex-parte action under the applicable service rules. The CRPF emphasized that responding to official notices is a mandatory responsibility of every officer and forms an essential part of administrative accountability. Headquarters also directed all concerned units to give the matter top priority and ensure that the required documents reach the competent authority without further delay.

CRPF Reinforces Discipline During Training

The action reflects the CRPF’s emphasis on maintaining discipline throughout official training programmes. The force views working lunches, official interactions and engagements with senior officers as integral components of leadership development and professional learning. Such events provide trainee officers with opportunities to interact with senior leadership, exchange ideas and better understand organizational expectations. By issuing notices, the CRPF has signalled that it expects officers to participate in all officially scheduled activities unless they have valid reasons for their absence. The force followed due process by issuing an initial notice, allowing time for explanations and later sending a reminder after no replies were received. The development underlines the organization’s commitment to enforcing discipline across all levels of training.

The CRPF is now awaiting written explanations from the eight Assistant Commandants before deciding the next course of action. Once the replies are received, the competent authority will examine each case individually and determine whether the officers had sufficient justification for their absence. If the explanations satisfy the department, the matter may be resolved in accordance with service rules. However, if the officers fail to respond or provide unsatisfactory explanations, the CRPF may initiate further disciplinary proceedings, including ex-parte action where applicable. The case has drawn attention because it highlights the force’s strict approach toward discipline and administrative compliance during training programmes. The final outcome will depend on the officers’ responses and the findings of the departmental review.
