Bihar: Bridge Collapse Disrupts Key Connectivity

Officials reported that the collapse occurred around 12:50 a.m. when nearly 33 meters of the approach section on the Bhagalpur side gave way and plunged into the Ganga River. The incident took place near pillar number 133, where a large slab suddenly caved in due to structural weakness. The unexpected failure created panic in the surrounding area, halted all vehicular movement on the bridge, and prompted immediate emergency response actions.

Police personnel and administrative authorities on site acted swiftly and prevented a major tragedy despite the seriousness of the situation. Several vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the collapse, but officials quickly intervened and moved them away from the danger zone. Their timely action played a crucial role in preventing casualties and maintaining control over the situation.

Swift Response Averts Major Tragedy

Bhagalpur District Magistrate Naval Kishore Chaudhary, along with other senior officials, rushed to the location soon after receiving information about the incident. Authorities immediately suspended all vehicular movement across the bridge and installed barricades at both ends to prevent public access. Technical experts and engineers inspected the damaged section and assessed the overall structural integrity, while the police and administration coordinated efforts to manage the situation effectively.

Authorities diverted traffic through alternative routes such as Munger and Sultanganj, leading to longer travel times for commuters and logistical challenges for transport services. The administration urged the public to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours, and strictly follow designated diversions. Meanwhile, the incident highlighted serious concerns regarding infrastructure safety and maintenance in the state, and authorities assured that they will conduct a detailed investigation and take necessary steps to restore safe connectivity as soon as possible.
