Ayodhya Lawyers Refuse to Represent Ram Temple Embezzlement Accused

Eight people face charges in the alleged embezzlement of donations collected at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Investigators registered an FIR against them after uncovering alleged financial irregularities involving cash and valuables. Police launched the investigation after receiving complaints about suspected misappropriation of temple donations.

The Ayodhya Bar Association refused to represent the accused in the Ram Temple donation embezzlement case. The association held an emergency meeting on Monday, June 29, to discuss the controversy. Association president Kalika Prasad Mishra announced that no lawyer would defend the accused. He warned that the association would impose a ₹5 lakh fine on any lawyer violating the decision. The announcement reflected the association’s collective stand on the high-profile case.

During the meeting, several lawyers demanded that former Ram Temple Trust general secretary Champat Rai, trustee Anil Mishra, and construction in-charge Gopal Rai leave Ayodhya within three days. They also warned of a citywide blockade if the three leaders ignored the demand. Police charged the accused under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include theft, criminal breach of trust, cheating, and criminal conspiracy. Investigators also alleged that some accused maintained close links with the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust leadership.
